In a nutshell…

My name is Erica, and I live in Cincinnati, Ohio.  I am a 29-year-old mother of two beautiful and amazing little girls.  Today (July 10, 2011) I am beginning my journey out of “Fatville” and into “Healthyville.”  As of this moment I am 312 pounds.  Unlike most people I do not have a specific weight goal.  I, instead, have a different kind of goal set:

-I want to be able to run around with my chicklets in the park without worrying about hurting my back or ankles (and without panting hysterically). {CHECK}
-I want to have a flat back – no more fat back (yucky)!
-I want to be able to actually *enjoy* sitting in the bathtub because it is relaxing and comfortable. {CHECK}
-I want to be able to go into a store to buy clothes and not come out crying and angry because *nothing* fits me.  (I’d love to be a size 16 again!) {CHECK}
-I want to live to see my daughters have children (and grandchildren) and be healthy enough to enjoy them!

If all of these goals can be accomplished and I still am not what the doctors believe is my “ideal” weight then I will be happy with it.  I do not have any desire to be the skinniest girl in the room.  I have no doubt I will never be a size 10 – and I am perfectly fine with that.  UPDATE: 3/17/2012 – Writing this section of my blog at over 300 pounds, I honestly thought I would never even reach that size 16.  However, sitting here now (currently in a size 16) my feelings are a little different.  Maybe I will not reach a size 10 (maybe I will, though), but a 12 is a definite possibility!  🙂

  1. Your goals are spot on! I began my journey & blog on July 22 so I’m right behind ya!

    • Awesome! It’s funny that you posted a comment here today, which made me re-read these posted goals (I actually haven’t been on this page of my blog since back in July). I am *proud* to report that I took a bath just yesterday (in light of a severely congested head), and was able to sit without my thighs touching both sides of the tub! I cannot remember the last time I could do that! 😀 It still was not the *most* comfortable thing in the world, but I am starting to think we just have a really uncomfortable tub! I wish we had one that had a nice slope in the back instead of a rigid, practically 90-degree-angle back. Oh well – my thighs don’t touch the sides…and that is good enough for now. 😉

      Have a great week!

  2. Love these goals! It’s all about life, isn’t it? The numbers are secondary. They can help measure progress, but other than that, it’s about living.

    • I agree! It really is all about living…as long and as healthy as possible. My trainer was actually excited when I told her I do not have a *specific* number I feel like I *have* to reach in order to be successful. I realize that the doctor’s “ideal” weight chart is not designed to fit every individual because it is so generalized. I believe on the doctor’s chart I should be around 122 – 149. That would be *insane* and I am not joking. When I was a size 13/14 (in high school) I was already 180 to 190 pounds. I could not imagine dropping another 30 to 60 pounds from that point – sheesh! I would look ill and malnourished (and who wants that?). I have a big frame, and I know that about myself. I also know I have giant boobies (currently in a 38J…down from a K-cup – woohoo!), which also adds some weight (and causes me not to want to be super thin and look like Dolly).

      We all need to be realistic about our bodies because we are all so different. I certainly recognize my “uniqueness” and will be happy as long as I am healthy. 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by!
